Will a Corset with Stockings be the Hottest Lingerie of 2012?

I just adore lingerie generally but the winning combination in 2012, for me by a mile, will be the corset supported by stockings and suspenders (or should that be the other way round?).

In case you don’t know, a corset is a garment that holds and shapes the torso into a desired shape. This can be done for medical purposes but here we are far more interested in corsets worn for reasons of fashion and aesthetics.

So why are corsets so hot? Loads of reasons including:

• Movies like Moulin Rouge and Chicago first bought this traditional garment firmly back into the public eye.
• Lots of raunchy female performers are wearing corsets. Think, for example, of Katy Perry, Jessie J or Rihanna in the world of pop.
• More recently the movie Burlesque (2010) and fabulous Corset-clad Christina Aguilera bought the corset even more attention.
• The corset enhances the natural body shape and decorates the wearer at the same time.
• The very act of enclosing the body is far sexier than exposing it.

The whole burlesque tradition of women showing off their bodies is heavily focused on the corset. Whether the corset has suspenders that attach to stockings or is worn with fishnet tights, the effect is the same; men are electrified while women are full of admiration.
